CONTENT TYPES

What we publish

We focus on content that helps North American players find the game, understand it and get better at it. These are the formats that work best.

Technique guides

Step-by-step breakdowns of specific skills. Pointing variations, shooting mechanics, reading terrain, mental game. Real instruction rather than general advice.

1200 to 2000 words

Club-building guides

Practical, experience-based writing on starting and growing a club. Court construction, recruiting members, running a first tournament, working with a federation.

1000 to 2000 words

Culture & history

The story of pétanque in North America. Regional histories, notable clubs, interviews with long-time players, the cultural bridge between France and the continent.

800 to 1500 words

Beginner-focused pieces

Content written for someone who has never played, written from someone who knows the sport deeply. The challenge is explaining complexity simply without losing accuracy.

600 to 1200 words

Gear & equipment

Equipment reviews based on real use. We prioritize contributors who have used the gear for at least one season. Not sponsored content, just honest assessments.

800 to 1500 words

Club & player spotlights

Profiles of interesting clubs, players or pétanque communities across North America. Requires original photos and a willingness to share the real story.

600 to 1000 words
OUR STANDARDS

What we expect

We edit everything we publish, and we edit it properly. That means we may rewrite sections, change headlines, adjust the structure and cut content that does not serve the reader. We will always discuss major changes with you before publishing.

We do not publish content that exists to promote a brand, club or product without clear disclosure. We do not publish content that is already published elsewhere.

Good writing does not require formal training. It requires knowing what you are talking about and caring about the reader understanding it.

WHAT MAKES A STRONG PITCH
✓
A specific angle rather than a broad topic (“How I fixed my pointing after 3 years of doing it wrong” beats “How to point“)
✓
First-hand experience or genuine expertise in the area
✓
Written for a North American audience, with local context where relevant
✓
Accurate on the rules and terminology
✓
Practical, something the reader can use or act on
WHAT WE WILL NOT ACCEPT
✗

Content already published on your blog, Medium or anywhere else

✗

Undisclosed promotional content for brands or clubs

✗

AI raw drafts submitted without any fine-tuning

✗

Purely opinion pieces with no practical value or supporting evidence

✗

Content that requires significant fact-checking before it can be published

HOW IT WORKS

From pitch to published

1

Send a pitch

A short paragraph on the topic, your angle and why you are the right person to write it. No full drafts at this stage.

2

We respond

We reply within 5 business days. If we are interested, we will confirm the brief, target length and deadline.

3

Write and submit

4

Edited and published

We edit and share the final version for your approval. Once confirmed, it goes live with your author bio and photo.

SEND YOUR PITCH

Ready to write?

Tell us what you have in mind. You do not need a finished piece. A clear idea and a reason why you are the right person to write it is enough to get started.

We respond to every pitch. If yours is not the right fit, we will tell you why so you can come back with something stronger.

A note on compensationPétanque Central is independently run. At this stage, we offer contributor bylines, a bio link and editorial support rather than payment.

Pitch your idea

Keep it brief. Two paragraphs is plenty.

We respond to all pitches within 5 business days.
