| Club | Where | Courts | Members | Venue and notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| South Florida Pétanque Club | Lake Worth Beach | 23 | About 160 | John Prince Park, 4759 S. Congress Ave. Started 1993, with the most dedicated courts at any US venue |

23 and 20
The court count
South Florida Pétanque Club has the most permanent pétanque courts of any venue in the United States.
John Prince Park
Twenty-three dedicated courts sit in a 716-acre county park at 4759 S. Congress Ave in Lake Worth Beach. The club has played there since 1993 and has around 160 members.
A new pavilion went in during 2025. The eight small picnic shelters near the courts are closed for replacement, so plan your shade around that.
Boca Pétanque 2000
Twenty courts behind the South County Civic Center on Jog Road in Delray Beach, about twenty minutes south. John Rolland founded the club in 2000 and was still leading it twenty-five years later.
Membership sits at about 65, so the courts-to-players ratio here is unusual.
The Amelia Island caveat
Amelia Island in north Florida builds 68 courts for the 2026 Pétanque Amelia Island Open, which runs 13 to 15 November. It reached 93 courts in 2018. Its permanent club facility is sixteen.
So South Florida has the most courts year-round, and Amelia Island has the most for one weekend.
Palm Beach County
Pétanque in Palm Beach County and Jupiter
Palm Beach County holds three of the region’s four clubs: South Florida Pétanque Club in Lake Worth Beach, Boca Pétanque 2000 in Delray Beach and Jupiter Pétanque in Jupiter.
Jupiter Pétanque
Founded in 2008, Jupiter Pétanque plays at DuBois Park, 19075 Dubois Rd. It is not on the current FPUSA roster, which matters only for tournament entry.
West Palm Beach
The nearest club is South Florida Pétanque Club at John Prince Park, about fifteen minutes south in Lake Worth Beach.
2026
The 2026 calendar
South Florida Pétanque Club hosted four events on the national calendar in 2026, three of them national championships on a single weekend.
| Date | Event | Host | Level |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 February | Southeast Regional Select Doubles | South Florida Pétanque Club | Regional |
| 7 March | National Men’s Doubles | South Florida Pétanque Club | National championship |
| 7 March | National Women’s Doubles | South Florida Pétanque Club | National championship |
| 8 March | National Mixed Doubles | South Florida Pétanque Club | National championship |
Hosting three national championships across two days makes John Prince Park one of the busiest competition venues in the country.
The full national calendar is on our events page.

Where to start
Which club
South Florida Pétanque Club if you want the full experience, with 23 courts and about 160 people to play against. Boca Pétanque 2000 if you are further south and prefer a smaller group.
Both welcome beginners. South Florida lends boules to newcomers, and its three-game sessions cost $3 per player.
What to bring
Closed-toe shoes, water and a hat. The courts are open and Florida sun is not forgiving, which is why most play here happens in the morning.
The rules take about five minutes to learn, and somebody will walk you through a game anyway.
Accuracy
Listings to treat carefully
Three South Florida entries circulate widely and do not hold up. Worth knowing before you plan a trip around one.
Casa Morada, Islamorada
Frequently listed as a pétanque venue in the Keys. The hotel’s own description says the garden designer Raymond Jungles built a bocce court there.
Treat it as bocce unless the resort tells you otherwise.
Coral Springs
There is a terrain at Fern Glen Park, but the city’s own amenity list for that park names a bocce court and no pétanque. It is not an FPUSA club.
Member counts and a 1993 founding date attached to a Coral Springs club appear to belong to South Florida Pétanque Club.
The Northwood bar
A bar named for the game operates in West Palm Beach’s Northwood district and has moved down the street to 427 and 429 Northwood Rd. Several listings still show 517.
Published hours disagree sharply between sources, and no current listing confirms a playing court. Call before going.
Common questions
Questions about pétanque in South Florida
Where is the biggest pétanque facility in the United States?
South Florida Pétanque Club at John Prince Park in Lake Worth Beach, with 23 dedicated courts. That is the highest permanent court count at any US venue I can verify.
Boca Pétanque 2000 is second with 20, about twenty minutes south. Between them, Palm Beach County holds 43 permanent courts.
Is that the largest in the country?
For permanent courts, yes. The caveat is Amelia Island in north Florida, which builds a temporary tournament site of 68 courts for one weekend in November.
Its permanent club facility is sixteen courts. So South Florida has the most all year, and Amelia Island has the most for three days in November.
Where can I play in West Palm Beach?
South Florida Pétanque Club at John Prince Park is about fifteen minutes south in Lake Worth Beach, and it is the serious option.
A bar called Pétanque operates in the Northwood district and has moved along the street to 427 and 429 Northwood Rd. Listings still carry its old address at 517 and disagree on hours, so call before going.
What does it cost to play?
Very little. South Florida Pétanque Club lends boules to newcomers and charges $3 per player for a three-game session. Boca Pétanque 2000 also welcomes beginners.
FPUSA membership, which you need for sanctioned tournaments, costs $25 a year for adults and is usually arranged through your club. Club dues are set locally, and South Florida charges $35 a year.
When does the season run?
Play runs year-round, but the region’s real season is October through May. Mild winters make this a destination for players coming down from the Northeast and Canada.
Summer afternoons are hot and wet, so play shifts to mornings.
Can I play pétanque in Miami?
Yes, at Dante Fascell Park, 8600 Red Rd, in South Miami. Miami Pétanque Club plays there on Sundays from 8am to noon.
The club joined FPUSA in January 2015 under the name Petanque Biltmore, when it played at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. It won the 2025 Florida Cup.
Is there pétanque in the Florida Keys?
Hardly any. Casa Morada in Islamorada is often listed as a pétanque venue, but the hotel’s own description says its garden designer built a bocce court.
If you want a court on a trip to the Keys, plan to play in Miami-Dade before you drive south.
What about Coral Springs?
There is a terrain at Fern Glen Park, but the city lists a bocce court among the park’s amenities and no pétanque. Coral Springs is not an FPUSA club.
Membership figures and founding dates circulating for a Coral Springs club appear to be South Florida Pétanque Club’s, attached to the wrong entry.
What tournaments run here?
South Florida Pétanque Club hosted four events on the 2026 national calendar, including three national championships over one weekend in March.
That makes it one of the busiest hosting venues in the country. The full calendar is on our events page.
