Pétanque scoresheet and tournament tool

Score a single game end after end, or run a tournament in Swiss rounds, pools of four, round robin or knockout through to the final. Every sheet prints clean on letter or A4 paper.

Formats

What the tool runs

One game: A scoresheet for singles, doubles, triples or mixed teams, filled in end after end with the running total beside each end.

Swiss system: Teams on the same number of wins meet each round and no two teams meet twice. An optional knockout for the top 2, 4, 8 or 16 settles the title.

Pools of four: Two opening games, then a winners’ game, a losers’ game and a barrage. Two teams from each pool go through to a knockout that runs to the final.

Round robin: Every team plays every other team once, with a terrain number on each game when you enter how many terrains you have.

Knockout: A seeded or drawn bracket from the first round to the final, with byes for the top seeds and an optional game for third place.

Precision shooting: Five disciplines at 6, 7, 8 and 9 m, each shot scored 0, 1, 3 or 5, ranked on total, then 5s, then 3s.

Swiss system

How the Swiss pairings work

Round 1 is a random draw, or follows the entry order when you seed the teams. From round 2, teams are ranked on wins and the tiebreaks you chose, then paired inside each group of equal wins.

Inside a group you can pair neighbors (1st v 2nd, 3rd v 4th) or halves (top half v bottom half). When a group has an odd number of teams, one team moves to the next group down.

No two teams meet twice. The pairing checks every combination first and only allows a rematch when nothing else completes the round, and the round then says so.

With an odd number of teams, the lowest-ranked team that has not had a bye sits out. The FPUSA tournament regulations score a bye 13-7 for the team that sits out and the FFPJP Swiss system notes use 13-6, so the setting offers both.

FPUSA breaks ties on Buchholz (the wins of every team you played), then on the opponents’ Buchholz, then on point difference, and in the tool a bye adds nothing to Buchholz. The FFPJP order is wins, point difference, then the head-to-head result.

Three rounds separate 8 teams, four rounds 16 and five rounds 32. The tool suggests that number for your field and lets you change it.

Timed games

Timed games and scores under 13

Many events put a time limit on each game. The FPUSA regulations set 45 minutes for singles, 60 for doubles and 75 for triples, each plus one end, and a tie then goes to one more end.

Turn on timed games and the score check accepts a winner under 13 while still refusing a tied game. The single-game sheet marks the end where time was called and counts the extra ends for you.

The FIPJP rules allow games to 11 points in leagues and qualifying heats. The points-to-win setting covers both 13 and 11.

Printing

Printed sheets

Each print button sends the sheet alone to the printer, without the site menus or footer. Match sheets fit three to a page, each with a 20-end grid, a running total line and space for both captains to sign.

Results print one round after another, then the standings with every tiebreak column. Blank sheets are there for games scored on paper at the terrain.

For a league or club night kept on paper, print the blank standings sheet in Letter or A4.

Saving

Where your tournament is saved

Everything stays in the browser on the device you use, and nothing is sent to Pétanque Central. Save a backup file to move a tournament to another phone or laptop, then open it there.

For the rest of the organizer toolkit, the tournament resources page has the director checklist, and the formats page explains each format in detail.

Common questions

Before your event

Three rounds for up to 8 teams, four for up to 16 and five for up to 32. Each extra round leaves fewer teams level on wins.

No. The pairing searches every combination to avoid a rematch and allows one only when no other pairing can complete the round.

Open the standings and tap Withdraw next to the team. It keeps its results and drops out of the next pairings.

Yes, once timed games are on. Without a time limit the winner needs 13 points, or 11 when the game is set to 11.

Yes. Once the page has loaded, every score saves on the device, so a dropped connection in the park loses nothing.
